Event Description

The A-Z of Cabaret

Charismatic crooners… Sultry songstresses… Mind-bending maestros… all presented in a bravura program of dazzling diversity. Sit back, relax, and with wine glass firmly in hand be transported to a realm of intimate live performance.

The A - Z of Cabaret is a contemporary cabaret concert which celebrates this dynamic and popular art form and all that it encompasses with music exotic and eclectic, cracking comedy, and drastically dramatic divas. From its beginnings in the public bars of Europe, to the cafes of Paris, the clubs of Berlin, the Music Halls of London, the glamorous Las Vegas showrooms and our own Australian traditions, the audience is taken on a vibrant musical journey by an ensemble of Queensland's finest cabaret performers and musicians.

The ensemble pay homage to some of the finest cabaret performers in history, interpreting the music of Brecht and Jacques Brel, Cole Porter, Peter Allen, Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Gracie Fields, Maurice Chevalier, Nick Cave, The Doors, and more! The A-Z of Cabaret offers something for everyone from all generations and diverse musical tastes, all wrapped up in one memorable night out where fabulous music and entertainment are the main ingredients.

"Like the court jesters of old, cabaret artists see everything as fair game, it's a place to milk the sacred cows, it's no holds barred, it's political, satirical, lyrical, mystical and musical, a place to lose your inhibitions and enter a world of revelation and provocation that has audiences addicted and pleading for more." Alison St Ledger

"The acoustics sounded fantastic, and the cast, some of Brisbane's finest performers, exceeded all expectations" Tsunami Magazine, 2000

"One of the top ten musical highlights of 2000" Melbourne Age

"Top acts in a top venue in a top city" Simon Holt, Northern News, March 2002
